Searching for Storrows

Welcome to the website for the Storrow One-Name Study, hosted by the Guild of One Name Studies.

My interest in the surname was sparked by trying to identify the ancestors of my 5 x Great Grandmother, Jane Starrow, who was baptised in Appleby (then in Westmorland, now in Cumbria) on 14 October 1754. She was the daughter of Thomas Starrow and his wife, Elizabeth Fawcett, who had married in Appleby two years earlier, but I have never been able to identify their parents.

Searching parish registers and other contemporary local documents, I soon realised that Starrow was interchangeable in the records with Storrow and there were many Storrows in Westmorland and Cumberland, so I started collecting as much information as I could about them in the hope of, one day, being able to find a connection to Jane and her father.

Eventually I found myself collecting Storrow/Starrow references whenever I came across them, amassing much disparate and random data, and often leading to the uncovering of fascinating stories. So, early in 2020 I decided to study the surname on a more systematic and organised basis and registered this one-name study with the Guild of One Name Studies.
